The garden, and the plan behind it

Every plant has its place.

Draw your bed to scale, then place each plant at the width it reaches when grown, so nothing is crowded in year three. Verdant counts every plant and works out the mulch before you buy anything.

The plant library

1,000+ plants, each with the numbers that matter.

Spacing, grown size, sun and hardiness for every plant, plus what to do with it each season. Your zip code sets your growing zone, so the library shows what will grow where you live.

On planting day

Your phone shows where each plant goes.

The planting grid marks the next spot and gives its distance from the bed's edges. Check plants off as they go in. It keeps working when there's no signal.

Garden visualization

See the garden before you plant it.

Start from a photo of your own space, or from a plan you've drawn, and Verdant shows you the garden: a planting drawn for the photo, or a watercolor of the bed as it will look when grown, at the moment of the year you choose.

  • Design from a photo of your space 4 creditsPhotograph a bare spot and get a planting drawn for it, ready to edit as a plan.
  • A watercolor of your plan 1 creditSee what blooms together before anything goes in.
  • Find the plants in a photo you admire 1 creditGet the plants identified and counted, each one labeled on your photo.

All three draw from the same AI credit allowance. Everything works during the 7-day trial, which includes 7 credits to use on any of them. Everything else in Verdant is unlimited.

Who makes Verdant

Made by a gardener in Idaho.

When we moved our family from New England to Idaho, I knew very little about gardening in the high desert. We had land to work with, and I had a lot to learn. As I started planning gardens, I found myself working through the same questions over and over: which plants would grow here, how many I needed, where they should go, and how to care for them once they were planted.

I built Verdant to bring all of that information into one place and make the process of planning and maintaining a garden more manageable.

Verdant is made by Gray Sage Studios, a small studio in Idaho. A person reads every message sent to hello@graysagestudios.com.

After the planting

Garden care, week by week.

Once a bed is in, Verdant lists what it needs each week, timed to your frost dates. A reminder comes to your phone, and a summary arrives by email on Monday morning.

Questions

Can I design my own garden, or only use your plans?

Both. Draw any bed to your own measurements and choose every plant yourself, or open one of our plans and change whatever you like.

Do I need a computer?

Designing and editing a plan is done on a computer. Everything you take outside is on your phone: the planting grid, shopping lists, plant lookups and weekly care.

Can I print my plan?

Yes. Any plan exports as a PDF with the layout, plant list and counts.

Is the care advice for where I live?

Your zip code sets your growing zone and frost dates, and weekly tasks are timed to them. You can adjust the frost dates yourself.

What if a plant I want isn't in the library?

Ask us to add it from inside the app. We review every request.

What happens if I cancel?

Everything works until your paid period ends. After that your plans and lists stay open to view, with no end date.
